Post Spring Semester 2009
With registration for spring classes coming on pretty quick here, I figured I'd start a thread for those of you who would like to have some other meteorology majors in your classes with you. Essentially if you are going to be in one of the larger classes, such as Physics/Chemistry/Math, state the times you are available for having that class and see how many others are also available at that time.

It is quite helpful if you have someone you know and get along with in your class with you, so please use this as an advantage. If you have any questions, please be sure to talk to your advisor, or an upperclassmen, as they both should be able to provide you with some help! Thanks

One class that I'm taking that might be of interest to anyone who's (double) majoring in geology or environmental science is Soil Physics, AGRON 477/577:

Quote:
Agron 577. Soil Physics. (Cross-listed with EnSci). (3-0) Cr. 3. S. Prereq: 354. Recommended: Math 166. Horton. The physical soil system: the soil components and their physical interactions; transport processes involving water, air, and heat.
I'm pretty sure that AGRON 354 is just a recommendation more than a prereq., I don't think Dr. Horton will be talking much about soil fertility, just wants you to be generally comfortable w/ soils before taking the course. I also don't know why it hasn't been dual-listed as 477 yet, as I know that he's planned on opening it up to more undergrads.

If I can advertise a course that I thought was interesting and would be glad to help anyone with, it would be MTEOR 405/505, Environmental Biophysics (a.k.a. Biometeorology), taught by Dr. Hornbuckle. If you thought Dr. Twine's seminar today on land surface modeling was interesting, you'll definitely want to take it.

Quote:
Mteor 405. Environmental Biophysics. (Dual-listed with 505). (Cross-listed with Agron). (3-0) Cr. 3. Alt. S., offered 2009. Prereq: Math 166 or equivalent. Hornbuckle. The physical microenvironment in which organisms live, with an emphasis on the processes of energy and mass (water and carbon) exchange between organisms and their environment and the quantitative models that are used to represent these processes. Temperature, water, and wind. Heat, mass, and radiative transport. Applications to animals, plants, and plant communities.

AGRON 477/577 is M W F 10:00am-10:50am
MTEOR 405/505 is T R 11:00am-12:30pm

Yay!!!

I am planning to take JL MC 347, MW 12:20 - 2:00. This will take care of the ENGL 302/314 requirement (but if any of you take my seat I will not be happy :x )

Ben tell me bout this class. I would love to take it with you. Are you sure you can take this class. There are pre reqs for it that I thought only Journalism majors can take. I looked it up sounds awesome though!

The Prerequisite for the Journalism class is only junior standing. I looked it up the other day because I put it on my four year plan. :)

Yes, you can take JL MC 347. If you look carefully at your DARs from, you will see that it is listed as one of the classes you can take, along with ENGL 302 and 314, that will satisfy that part of the 'COMMUNICATION PROFICIENCY CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS'.

From what I understand about it, you write news story-type pieces about current events in the scientific field. When my friend was taking it a bit ago, he was writing about the planet-hood of pluto, right before it un-became a planet, which was semi-sad, since now Neptune is lonely out there, since Uranus is a big bully.

Ok that's an awesome loop poll to hear about. Sounds like a great class to take. Glad to hear I can take a useful journalism class without having to double major in it.
