President Schwedler

Submit your T-shirt designs by Sunday, 22 March. Right now, we have a few designs, but we would like more. Please send those in. Be creative, funny, intelligent, and have fun doing it. We will be showing the designs for the next meeting to vote on them.
On Saturday, 28 February, we will be hosting Science Bound, showing the Virtual Storm, from 9:45-10:45 AM. A group of middle school students are coming to campus to learn about storm structure and severe weather. We will also be showing the virtual tornado for them to observe.
There will be CPR Training, held on Saturday, 28 February at noon. A sign-up sheet was sent around during the meeting. Stephanie Melton will be leading the training session, with the cost being about 20 dollars. We will need payment by Saturday, 21 February. The money must be into the AMS mailbox by Friday, 20 February. Write checks to .ISU AMS..
The Des Moines National Weather Service will be giving Storm Spotter Training. There will be two different sessions, one for beginners and one for advanced members:

Basic: Thursday, 05 March at 6:30 pm.Extension 4-H building; west of Frederiksen Ct., 13^th & Stange.

Advanced: Monday, 06 April at 7 PM.2050 Agronomy Hall

We.ll send out more information on these two training sessions.

Vice President Deppe

The revamping plans for the new tornado machine were brought up. Andrew Mair spoke about the new plans, since our current tornado machine is not superlatively functional. Mr. Mair described the plans for a new machine, and the parts that were essential to the creation of it. Discussion was held regarding the tornado machine and the costs. Voting will occur at a future date. Construction should be completed over Spring break, so it would be ready for VEISHEA.
For our upcoming VEISHEA celebration, we will have a spot in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences tent. It will be the large tent near Catt Hall. We have had the tornado machine, posters, radar images, videos, etc. in the past. Any new ideas for VEISHEA are welcome. Things such as providing hot chocolate, or some other beverage, and showing chasing videos were brought up. The next meeting, we will have a sign up sheet for people who are willing to work at the ISU AMS table. We will only ask you to do a few hours of time to be there. If you have any other ideas, please contact Mr. Deppe at vp.isuams@iastate.edu. We usually set up at about 10 AM and take the table down at around 4 to 5 PM.
There is to be funding from Liberal Arts and Sciences for the National Weather Association.s Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference. We will be getting about 30 dollars reimbursement per person from the LAS for those attending the conference. If you still wish to sign up for it, it is not too late. Please sign up ASAP. If you wish to go, email your information (name, email, and in-session street address) to Mr. Deppe. Be sure to do this by Sunday, 22 February. The registration fee is 70 dollars for non-NWA members. The conference is Thursday, 2 April through Saturday, 4 April, at the West Des Moines Sheraton Hotel. There will be much to see, including featured speakers Tim Samaras, recounts of the Parkersburg, Iowa EF5 tornado, and the Eastern Iowa flooding. We will also bring in broadcasters from KCRG-TV9 and KWWL-7 that covered the Eastern Iowa flooding and the Parkersburg, IA EF5 tornado.

Miscellaneous Subjects

KaleidoQuiz (KQ): This event will be held on 6 March from 4 PM through 7 March at 6 PM. Liz Suess will be our team leader. A sign-up sheet was sent out for those who are interested. KQ is a two-day event that is full of fun trivia and knowledge questions. We will have the classroom (3128 Agronomy Hall) reserved. Movie and music montages, a Guitar Hero tournament, and other hilarious and random references will be heard during KQ. The more people that help out, the better. A KQ meeting after the AMS meeting will be held to vote on a team name. A motion was made to have ISU AMS fund the 25 dollar admission fee to KQ. This was voted on, and it passed.
Spring Break Trip.Atlanta and Pensacola: ISU AMS Secretary Justin Schultz spoke about the upcoming Spring Break trip to Atlanta, Georgia, and Pensacola, Florida. The group is organizing tours at: the Weather Channel, CNN Weather Center, WEAR-TV in Pensacola, the local Naval Air Force Base, hurricane damage from Hurricane Dennis, and a tour of the Atlanta aquarium. Mr. Schultz asked for the ISU AMS to fund some of the gasoline costs for travel. He motioned to have the ISU AMS fund $250.00 for the cost. It was voted on, and it was passed. Please make sure to keep gas receipts, and be sure they are itemized receipts.

Treasurer Karsten

Mr. Karsten discussed the recent StormReady meeting with Department of Residence Staff Coordinator Dave Bunker. He now has a detailed 106-page report on where we would like to put the storm shelter signs. We will also organize training for future Community Advisors in the residence halls. Thanks to everyone who has helped up to this point.
Fees for the NWA.s Severe Storms and Doppler Radar Conference are due by Friday, 6 March. The fee is $70 dollars for non-NWA members. Do not Pay it online. Instead, please pay Treasurer Karstens the fee, or drop a check or cash in the AMS Mailbox in the office. If you are a current member of the NWA, talk to Mr. Karsten regarding the fee.

Make checks payable to .ISU AMS,. and make sure your name and address is on it (especially if paid with cash, write them on an envelope).

AMS Weather Station update: leave feedback on the forums. Please check out the instruments, and vote on which station you would like to see us get to put on the roof.

Sophomore Chair Minniear

New intramural sports are coming up. Contact Intramurals at http://www.recservices.iastate.edu/im/calendar.php, or contact Ms. Minniear at sophomore.isuams@iastate.edu if you need more information.

1) Co-Ed volleyball.Registration starts on 23 February, and ends on 4 March.

2) Slow Pitch Softball.Registration starts on 23 February, and ends on 4 March.

3) Broomball ($40/team).Registration starts on 25 February, and ends on 11 March.

Social Chair Hoffman

There will be a free ice skating event to be held on 27 February at 9:00 PM. We will meet in the parking lot north of Agronomy Hall at 8:45 PM for anyone who needs a ride to the rink.
Faculty member Dave Flory is hosting a Minnesota Wild vs. the Detroit Red Wings NHL hockey game on 21 February at 7:00 PM. Rides will leave at 6:30 PM from the parking lot north of Agronomy Hall.

Academic Chair Prentice

We need more Review Session Leaders. The major classes we need them for are the Physics, Math, and Meteorology classes. If anyone is willing to lead a review session for any of these classes, please contact Mr. Prentice.
For those of you who have not done so, please submit your class schedule. E-mail your class schedule to academic.isuams@iastate.edu, and we will put you in a proper review group for your class or classes.
Make sure you are forecasting for WxChallenge. We are currently at New York, NY, and next week, we will begin Birmingham, AL. Be sure to get in your forecasts on time.

Past President Hobbs

The Iowa Forecast contest is going well. We are now on Period 10, which is Spencer, Iowa. For our previous period, we forecasted for Marshalltown, and the winner was Chris Schaffer. Congratulations, Chris. If you would like to join, email Mr. Hobbs at jonhobbs@iastate.edu. Why not.it.s free!

Historian Witter

We will be meeting on 7 March at 4:00 PM to discuss changes to the ISU AMS Brochure. Since we were unable to find the digital copy of the brochure, we will be constructing a new one from scratch. Come with some great ideas, and we might just use them for many up-coming ISU Meteorology students to see!

Outreach Chair Rabideau

You can still sell calendars. They are now 5 dollars a piece. If you would like to sell more, be sure to grab a form at http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/ams/calendarinfo.php. You can hand them in to the ISU AMS mailbox, and we will get you your calendars right away.
Be sure to submit your new photos by Sunday, 22 March, which is the end of spring break. Send those to Ms. Rabideau directly at outreach.isuams@iastate.edu, or post them on the forums picture gallery at http://www.meteor.iastate.edu/ams/Photos/.
The calendar committee should have gotten an e-mail regarding the new calendars. Be sure to fill out the Doodle that Ms. Rabideau set up. The meeting will be about the formatting of the calendars. If you have any new ideas, please come to the meeting and tell the committee about them.
